Another Chattanooga urban legend is also attached to Room 311, one that include the famous gangster Al Capone as staying in this haunted room during his federal trial. Our pool area also features a lush lounge area perfect for a bit of leisure. During the Read House’s most recent renovation, the room was restored to its original 1920s state. This is the only door in the hotel that opens with a physical key. My door had a privacy feature where I could flip a switch and let housekeeping know not to knock versus having to manually put out a do not disturb sign.
Over time, the Read House Hotel became synonymous with opulence and luxury. Unfortunately, the inn caught fire and was razed to the ground in 1867. And so it was time for the property to be passed into new hands... Financial prosperity did not come to the hotel’s new owners, and, in fact, during the Civil War itself, the property was converted into a makeshift hospital for Union forces in 1863. Chattanooga’s Crutchfield family saw opportunity for financial success and grabbed it by the horns.
We dined at Bridgemans and it was superb and convenient. And lastly we required assistance to and from our room because we were traveling with my elderly mother. The valet staff were so helpful and quick to help with luggage and retrieve the car. We will stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

Fabulous hotel, clean extremely comfortable beds, hotel staff a pleasure to deal with. Everything was delightful and decorated for Christmas.
